Designing Woman has a pretty basic premise, but the execution is effortlessly jubilant, and while some of the "drama" feels manufactured, it's very much intentional. And the humor never goes too far or gets too silly - until maybe the climax, but the film has kind of earned it by then.

Elegant and classy, but outspoken and opinionated, Julia is known for her no-nonsense speeches from a feminist and liberal perspective. Outspoken feminist Julia Sugarbaker runs a design firm out of her Atlanta home, along with her shallow ex-beauty queen sister, Suzanne, divorced mother Mary Jo, and, naive country girl Charlene. Black ex-con Anthony helps deliver furniture for the business and voices his unique opinion on whatever the women are discussing. Designing Women was an iconic 80s TV show with an amazing cast. Eventually, the show would go through many cast changes, but the original five set the tone for the rest of the show.
